EnergizeCare Launches the Nation's First "See Our Wonderful People" Dementia Be Loving and Kind Awareness Symbol
During Alzheimer's & Brain Health Month, EnergizeCare is honored to introduce the "See Our Wonderful People" Dementia Be Loving and Kind Awareness Symbol—a first-of-its-kind national movement created to transform how the public interacts with individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
Inspired by the lived experience of a dedicated dementia care partner and brought to life through the mission of EnergizeCare, this symbol is more than a pin or bumper magnet—it is a gentle invitation for the world to respond with patience, kindness, and understanding.
The symbol features the forget-me-not flower, an internationally recognized symbol of dementia awareness, alongside the simple yet powerful message:
See Our Wonderful People
Its purpose is not to label a person or identify an illness. Instead, it quietly reminds others that the individual wearing the symbol may be living with dementia, encouraging everyone to pause before judging and to choose compassion over assumption.
Too often, behaviors associated with dementia are misunderstood. What may appear to be rudeness is often confusion. What may seem like repetition is often anxiety. What may feel like disinterest may simply be overwhelm.
As we often say at EnergizeCare:
"The disease affects the brain, but it does not erase the person."
Through this national movement, EnergizeCare hopes to reduce stigma, educate communities, support families, and create a culture where people living with dementia are welcomed with dignity and respect wherever they go—from grocery stores and restaurants to churches, banks, pharmacies, airports, and neighborhoods.
Individuals living with dementia, care partners, family members, and supporters are encouraged to wear the See Our Wonderful People awareness pin or display the bumper magnet to help create understanding in everyday public interactions. Educational wallet cards and online resources further explain the meaning behind the symbol, helping transform curiosity into conversation and conversation into awareness.
The movement begins in Central Ohio, but our vision extends far beyond our community. We invite individuals, families, businesses, healthcare organizations, faith communities, schools, and civic leaders across the country to join us in creating a more compassionate and dementia-friendly world.
